Hostage Clothing Crisis, Day 2

Hostage Clothing = Clothstage?

Yep, our clothes are still stuck in the washing machine, and our prospects of getting them back before tomorrow are zero to nil. I've been wearing the same pair of socks for three days. The situation is getting desperate. I'm not sure diplomacy is going to win the day here. Stay tuned for further developments...

In other news, Mexicans are short. Please don't take offense: this is a simple statistical fact. As a result, my head is in constant danger here, despite the fact that I am by no means tall by American standards. For example, the bathroom door in our home is shorter than the rest (actually, the door jamb is essentially the same height, but the floor is raised). What that means for me is that I have to duck my head in order to make it in and out uninjured. I have now lost count of how many times I have cracked my school on the door frame. So many times, apparently, that it's affected my memory. I also have to be constantly careful of low-strung wires which support the tent-stalls at the local markets. I have yet to walk into one, but they're very hard to see, especially at night, and it's just a matter of time before I get totally clotheslined. It was cool for a while to be tall; now it's a burden and a constant threat.

Enough complaining. Emily and I just learned a fun salsa routine at a free class with some of our schoolmates. I say "we learned", but of course I mean Emily learned and I managed to just get by without breaking Emily's nose or dropping an unsuspecting Swiss girl on the floor (though both were close calls). We had a good time, and no harm done. Tonight, the two of us are on our way to an American schoolmate's apartment to hang out and watch the presidential debate. We'll hope to find it in English, but we may be listening to two Mexican voices duke it out over American policy concerns.

Finally, the weather shows promise of clearing up! Yay! Emily and I are going exploring the surrounding areas this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for good weather. And go Obama! ¡Sí se puede!
