Finally, we have a reasonable connection and enough time to upload photos! These photos cover a lot of time, and they're not all inclusive, but they give little tastes of the last few weeks. A note for anyone who still doesn't know: You can link to full albums by clicking on any of the photos in the slideshow in the upper right part of the page. Some of the photos in the albums even have captions (!). And now, on to the photos...
First off, we have two excellent signs from Mitla. The first is a very helpful road sign in the town of Mitla:
The second sign is etched into a wall at the ruins. It says, in all seriousness, not to write on the walls of the ruins:
Here are two photos from our visit to the rug-making site outside of Oaxaca. Emily has in her hand initially a small insect gathered from cactus for dye-making. In the second picture Emily has demonstrated, by squishing the bug, just how the dye is made.
Next up are two shots of El Tule, the incredible 2,000-year-old tree just 10 minutes outside of Oaxaca. The first photo shows El Tule looming over the church at its side (and on the other side of the church is the not-so-bad-yourself son of El Tule). The second photo is of the trunk of El Tule. See if you can see the lion and the elephant. What else can you see?
Here are some of the many amusing shots from the university museum in the House of Puppets in Puebla. The first shot is a recreation of a dead student's apartment room from the Battle of Tlatelolco in 1968:
The next is part of a display of stuffed wild animals:
And here is Emily cowering from a shrunken head on display in the medical room. Also note the mummy slumped in the background display case.
Here we are at the Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa, with our first two giant Olmec heads:
Also in Xalapa, this is our visit to the fire station. There's Emily ready for service next to an antique fire truck. And the second photo has me sliding down the fire pole.
