Wishing for some health for the New Year

So things are going well here in Oaxaca except that for the last few days I have been feeling crummy. I have very little patience for being sick, but I am trying to rest and Michael is helping me remember that we still have time to explore even if we take an afternoon off.

This week I have moved up to Michaels class! Hooray! I was in a group that on Monday started over at the begining of the book that I have worked thorough all but the last three lessons of and so the bumpped me up to the special program. It is really quite fun to be in class together. We do a mix of grammar and reading short stories and doing different excercizes. It keeps my attention better than the other classes and the teacher really has a clear lesson plan with each class.

Today after lunch we took the bus down to the big market here to locate what our host dad said was the very best hot chocolate mix in Oaxaca. We arent sure if we found it but we have obtained some yummy looking hot chocolate, as well as purchased a few chep bootlegged DVDS, which really, you cant leave Mexico without doing.

After the market we stopped by a plaza with lots of little Nieve stands which is like ice cream. The one we choose was tasty but icyier than ice cream and we dont know if that is how the all are or not. I had carrot and apple flavor, it was delicious. Michael took the more traditional chocolate route and was pleased as well.

Today is Rosh Hashana. We were going to cook dinner for our host family last night but Vicky's grandmother is very ill so she had to go take care of her. So we had apples and honey and little twisty challah like rolls with our roommate Lizzy and said some of the blessings. It is not the same as being with family though and we are definately missing Abby's cooking and company at services (which we arent going to because Oaxaca's Jewish population before you count any stray Jewish tourists is approxiamately). But we are wishing all of our loved ones a Sweet and Happy New Year. L'Shanah Tovah!
